Fellowship at GSCC (DOC)

Loaves and Fishes
Join us for this mid-week fellowship meal catered by King’s Restaurant.  Loaves and Fishes meets most Wednesdays from September through May at 6 PM in the church fellowship hall. The cost of the meal is $10 and reservations are required. The menu is on a rotating basis.   Please contact Lela Parker at (252) 559-3978 by Monday evening each week or make a standing reservation with her. Payment for the meal is due on Wednesday.  Please join us for a time of fellowship and wonderful food!

GSCC Birthday Celebration
This opportunity for fellowship generally occurs on the third Sunday of January.  The birthday celebration commemorates the founding of the congregation of Gordon Street Christian Church (DOC) in 1843.  This year GSCC will celebrate its 183rd birthday with a special service at 11:00 AM followed by a festive covered dish luncheon in the church fellowship hall.  We are thankful for God’s continued blessings!  Anyone who would like to assist with the covered dish luncheon set up and cleanup is encouraged to speak with Marsha Rowntree who coordinates this event.

Soup and Sandwich Luncheons
This popular fellowship opportunity occurs in February and March.  Come and enjoy homemade soup, sandwiches and dessert after worship in the fellowship hall!  Be generous with your donations for this event as it also serves as a fundraiser for CWF missions in the community!  This year’s luncheons will be held on February 1 and March 15 immediately after the worship service.  Please speak with Ginger Johnson or Marilyn Rouse, CWF coordinators if you are interested in helping with this event.

Ice Cream Social
Fellowship abounds as the church comes together for the Fall Kick off with the ice cream social.  Summer is a relaxed season at GSCC as many people travel and seek opportunities to be with family but worshipping God and church activities still go on albeit at a slower pace during the summer months.  This fellowship opportunity gives the congregation an opportunity to greet each other after the busy summer season and refocus on the work of the church and worship.  It typically occurs the first Sunday after the Labor Day holiday in September. If you would like to assist with this activity, please speak with Nora Parker who coordinates this event.

Homecoming
This special opportunity invites former church members, those members  who have moved and live a distance away, current members and friends in the community to “come home” to Gordon Street Christian Church (DOC).  A special worship service is planned often with former ministers being welcomed to the pulpit once again to provide the message. The fellowship continues with a covered dish luncheon in the fellowship hall after the service.  This event usually occurs on the third Sunday of October. Anyone who would like to assist with the covered dish luncheon set up and cleanup is encouraged to speak with Marsha Rowntree who coordinates this event.

Hanging of the Greens
Please join in the camaraderie for decorating the sanctuary and adjacent spaces for the Christmas season.  This special time generally begins the Sunday afternoon before the first Sunday of Advent and continues into the next week.  There is much work to be done as we prepare for the services of the Advent season including the Christmas Cantata, Pipes on Parade Christmas Concert, and the Christmas Eve midnight candlelight communion service.  This is a special time at Gordon Street Christian Church (DOC) all to bring glory to the birth of our Savior, Jesus Christ!  Thanks be to God!  We encourage all who are interested in this active fellowship opportunity to speak with Vernita Turnage or Wanda Scarborough, coordinators of this event.  It is truly a rewarding experience to help!
